500 Sport launched, in “Berlina” and “Berlina Sunroof” versions
The latter is the first 500 to be fitted with the canvas half roof, which was then adopted starting with the New 500 Tetto Apollable.
The changes are numerous and concern the engine and bodywork.
The Sport is immediately recognizable by the rigid metal roof, crossed by ribs and the characteristic two-tone livery
white with the red band that runs along the entire side at the height of the waistline and red circles.
Already in the first months after the launch, the first sports results begin: the 500 Sport wins many races, including the famous one
12 Hours of Hockenheim in 1958 where it ranks in the first four places in the category up to 500 cm³, and increases
public interest in the entire range as hoped for by the company.
